What I want to build

A running and non-comprehensive list of things I believe are important to solve.

Rewilding nature

We don’t need more beaten tracks in parks, we don’t need parking spots on the top of a mountain, we need more areas that are inherently wild and out of human reach. I would like to help to convert farm land and tree farms (a.k.a. commercial timberland) into wild places again that are inhabited by animals and offer wild space for humans to get in touch with themselves and their own wild nature.

Self-directed education

Education today is broken. It’s sucking creativity out of people and turns them into well-adjusted conformists. I would like to support and work on projects that help to bring agency to students and adults. I believe there are great developments under way, including the rise of online education (in form of cohort-based courses) as well as new models of schools (e.g. Synthesis). In Germany I don’t see major change happening soon so I’m interested in working out ways to bring perceived agency into the existing landscape of childhood and adult education.

Personal leverage

The opportunities of the Internet and a global community are immense. No longer need people work for a single employer and be a cog in a wheel. The opportunities are there to chart our own path into the world and work on things we truly care about. I’d be curious to work on and support projects that allow us to consume better information, help us think better and get more aligned with our own values. For me, true leverage comes from working on things we want to work on.
